Lake McKenzie is a perched lake—meaning it sits above the water table, fed only by rainwater. There’s no stream, river or creek flowing in or out, which keeps the water incredibly pure. The fine white silica sand acts like a natural filter, giving the lake its famous clarity and softness underfoot.
The colours here are extraordinary: blinding white edges blend into vivid turquoise shallows, which deepen into sapphire blues. As the sun moves across the sky, the water shifts shades like a living gemstone.
